Team India wins hat-trick in Women’s Under-19 World Cup, confirmed place in Super Six

Benoni (South Africa): The Indian team has scored a hat-trick of victories in the Women’s Under-19 World Cup. In the 20th match of the tournament, Shefali Verma’s team was up against the Scotland Women’s Under-19 team. Batting first, India scored 149 runs for 4 wickets. Shweta Sehrawat, who got off to a stormy start in the first two matches, did not start the innings in this match. India won the match by 83 runs after dismissing Scotland’s innings for just 66 runs. With this victory, Team India has reached Super Six.

India lost the wicket of its star opener and captain Shefali Verma (01) in the very second over. But Gongadi Trisha’s 51-ball 57-run half-century and Shweta Sehrawat’s 10-ball 31 not out helped India post a score of 149 for four. After 6 overs, India’s score was only 35 runs for two wickets. Richa Ghosh played an inning of 33 runs in 35 balls. Shweta, who landed at number six, batted furiously and took the team to 149 runs.

Brilliant bowling by the spin trio of Mannat Kashyap, Archana Devi Singh and Sonam Yadav wrapped up Scollland’s innings in the 14th over itself. Left-arm spinner Mannat took four wickets for 12 runs in four overs while off-spinner Archana Devi took three wickets for 14 runs.

With this, India bowled out the Scottish team for 66 runs in 13.1 overs and sealed their Super Six spot with a hat-trick of victories. Fifteen-year-old Sonam took one wicket for two runs in 1.1 overs. With this, India topped Group D with six points. Earlier, India had defeated South Africa and United Arab Emirates.
