Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 22-year-old fast bowler Umran from Jammu took five wickets for 25 runs while bowling brilliantly on Wednesday night.
His performance, however, did not take the team to victory as Rashid Khan (31 not out in 11 balls) and Rahul Teotia (40 not out in 21 balls) added 56 runs in the last four overs to give Gujarat Titans a final ball victory. Gujarat team scored 22 runs in the last six balls.
Former India captain Gavaskar said in post-match commentary, “The next challenge for him, I think, is the Indian team.”
“He might not get a chance to play in the playing XI because India have Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Umesh Yadav. That’s why he might not be able to play.
Gavaskar said, “But just traveling with the team, traveling with players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, sharing the dressing room with them… let’s see how it affects him.”
The young pacer has regularly bowled at over 150 kmph throughout the season and has picked up 15 wickets in eight matches at an average of 15.93.
India’s tour of England will begin in June. Both the teams will first play the final Test of the five-match series which was canceled last year due to Covid-19. This will be followed by a three-match T20I series and an ODI series of the same number of matches.
The Indian team will begin its tour of the UK with two T20Is against Ireland in Dublin from June 26.
