Match will start at 7.30 pm
Chennai (EMS). Mumbai Indians will take on Lucknow Supergiants in the Eliminator match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday. In this match, both the teams are seen as strong contenders for victory, but the way Mumbai has made it to the playoffs. This makes his pan look heavy. Mumbai’s batsmen are in excellent form though their bowling is weak. In bowling, Mumbai will have high hopes from experienced Piyush Chawla. Piyush has taken the maximum 20 wickets for the team so far. Apart from this, Jason Behrendorff has also impressed in fast bowling.
The Mumbai team finished last in the last Indian Premier League season, but this time the team recovered from the initial setbacks and made a spectacular comeback to make it to the play-offs. With Gujarat Titans’ win over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their last league match, Mumbai secured a place in the play-offs. Now captain Rohit Sharma and his team will be eyeing their sixth title.
On the other hand, Supergiants had to face defeat in the Eliminator last season and in such a situation, this time the team would like to move forward. The stand-in captain of the team, Krunal Pandya, has taken the team to the playoffs with a good captaincy so far and now he will be eyeing another win, although he will have to curb Mumbai all-rounder Cameron Green. Green scored a brilliant century against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last league match.
Apart from Green, Mumbai’s batting in this match against Supergiants will be based on Suryakumar Yadav, opener Ishan Kishan and captain Rohit. The way the Mumbai batsmen have played in the last few matches, it will not be easy for the Supergiants bowlers to contain them. The Supergiants have leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi whom the Mumbai batsmen will have to be wary of. He has taken 16 wickets in the last 14 matches and is the most successful bowler. Apart from Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Krunal and experienced Amit Mishra will also have to play an important role in this match. Mumbai’s fast bowling attack is also weak due to the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer, which can benefit the Supergiants.
The Supergiants batsmen have done well in this tournament so far. Marcus Stoinis, Kyle Myers and Nicholas Pooran will be responsible for scoring runs for the team. Chepauk’s pitch is slow due to which these batsmen can score big. Overall, this match is sure to be exciting.
