West Bengal signs agreement with La Liga to promote football
Madrid. Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is currently on a visit to Spain.
Banerjee arrived in Spain on Tuesday to participate in a three-day business summit aimed at attracting foreign investment in the state.
A photo of Ganguly sitting with CM Mamata Banerjee in Madrid, Spain was shared by All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on social media ‘X’.
The Government of West Bengal and Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (La Liga) have entered into an MoU to advance the game through mutual cooperation between India and Spain.
AITC tweeted, “Bengal is the Mecca of football, and every Bengali has deep feelings for this beautiful game. Today, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a fruitful meeting with La Liga officials to explore investment possibilities aimed at growing the beautiful game within our state.”
AITC said in another tweet, “In another remarkable update from Madrid, Spain, Honorable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has put West Bengal and football on the global map once again. An MoU has been signed with La Liga to set up a new football academy in West Bengal, which will bring it closer to our passionate fans. It’s time to make big history!”
In this program, former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Chief Secretary of West Bengal Government H.K. Dwivedi, representatives of two leading football clubs of West Bengal – Debashish Dutta, General Secretary, Mohun Bagan Athletic Club and Ishtiaq Ahmed, General Secretary, Mohammedan Sporting Club were present.
Earlier on Thursday, a video was shared by the official account of X’s Trinamool Congress in which she was seen jogging in Madrid, Spain in the morning.
