Dubai . India’s opener Smriti Mandhana was on Wednesday named in the ICC Women’s T20 Team of the Year for 2021. The International Cricket Council announces the names of the players who have performed well in a calendar year. Smriti, who scored 255 runs in T20Is at an average of 31.87, was India’s highest scorer in 2021. He scored two half-centuries in the nine matches he played this year.
This is the third time that Smriti has made it to the T20I squad in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Interestingly, Smriti is the only Indian player in the XI to have England’s Nat Sciver as the captain. None of the players from Australia are involved in this.
Knut, the veteran England all-rounder, put on impressive performances throughout the year. Batting in the middle order, he scored 153 runs including a half-century and also took 10 wickets at an average of 20.20.
Other England players include wicketkeeper-batsman Amy Jones, left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone, openers Tammy Beaumont and Danny Wyatt. In the eleven announced by the ICC, South Africa’s three-player batsman Laura Wolvaardt and fast bowlers Shabnim Ismail and Marijane Cup, besides Ireland’s off-spin all-rounder Gabby Lewis and Zimbabwe’s off-spin bowler Lorin Firi, have also been included.
