Hyderabad: Right-handed opener Shubman Gill hit a double century against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday. In the first match of India’s current ODI series, Gill’s innings came out with the bat of 209 runs. This is his first double century and third overall in ODI cricket. With the help of his innings, India set a target of 350 runs in front of New Zealand.

Completed one thousand runs in ODIs

During this innings Shubman Gill became the fastest Indian to score 1000 ODI runs. Gill, 23, completed 1000 runs in his 19th ODI innings by scoring 106 runs. After scoring 116 runs in 97 balls against Sri Lanka in the third ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, he scored his second century today. The right-handed batsman surpassed Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, who jointly held the previous record as the fastest Indian in 24 innings and joint second fastest to 1000 runs in ODIs.

He equaled Pakistan opener Iman-ul-Haq to cross 1000 runs in 19 innings while missing out on another Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman’s record of fastest to 1000 runs in 18 innings. Gill’s third ODI century came off just 87 balls in 19 innings, and among Indian cricketers, only Shikhar Dhawan (17) had reached his third century in 50 overs cricket in fewer innings.
