Gill said in a video conversation with captain Hardik Pandya released on the BCCI website, ‘The way I bat requires mental clarity and you have given me that kind of freedom especially today. You said, ‘I play the way I play and there is no need to do anything extra’. I think these small things help a lot.
He said, ‘In the last over of Mitchell Santner, I was in full swing and I had made up my mind to play the big shot but you advised me to restrain myself and be aggressive against the other bowler as Santner has played the entire series. I bowled well. In such a situation, strategically and technically this match was close to perfection for me.
Man of the series Hardik took four wickets in this match. When Gill asked about this, he said, “To be honest, four wickets is a part of the game, but I think if I am not wrong, I bowled at 145 and this pace gave me happiness and smile.” which you can see. This is my last match (for the Indian team in the current season). After this I am going on break. Hardik will play his next match after two months. He said, ‘That’s how I put my full force today. I tried to bowl as fast as possible. We got off to a good start which made the job easier.
