Bangalore,. Former Indian cricket team assistant coach Sanjay Bangar has been appointed as the head coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team for the upcoming IPL season.
He will take over from Mike Hesson, who will remain with the team as Director of Cricket Operations. It is noteworthy that former New Zealand coach Hesson took the additional charge of head coach for the UAE leg of IPL 2021.
RCB Chairman Pratmesh Mishra said, “The RCB franchise is committed to its objective of supporting and nurturing talent from within the team and the appointment of Sanjay Bangar is a reflection of this commitment. Sanjay Bangar has been part of our support staff as a batting consultant and after working for a long time with the Indian cricket team, he will bring a wealth of experience to the team as both a player and a batting coach. Sanjay has been selected as the head coach after a rigorous and rigorous selection process. We are confident that he will be able to utilize his experience and maximize the potential of the team. Notably, Bangar, who played 12 Tests and 15 ODIs for India, has played coaching roles with several teams. In IPL 2010, he was the batting coach of the Kochi Tuskers franchise. Prior to the 2014 IPL season, he was made the assistant coach of Kings XI Punjab. He then took over as head coach from Darren Lehmann during the same season and made the team the runners-up of the IPL. In the same year, he was appointed as the batting consultant of RCB. He has also served the Indian team in various coaching capacities as the head coach of the Indian team that toured Zimbabwe in June 2016, as batting coach and assistant coach.
