Gekberha. Roelof van der Merwe produced one of the best SA20 bowling performances so far for Sunrisers Eastern Cape to thrash Durban Supergiants at St George’s Park. Van der Merwe took 6/20 to bowl out the Super Giants for just 86 runs in 14.4 overs. Sunrisers registered a massive 124-run victory.
It was a near-perfect performance from the Sunrisers, as they had earlier put up a mammoth display of batting to post a mammoth 210/2.
The huge score was capped by half-centuries from openers Adam Rossington and Jordan Harman. Rossington, in particular, was in fine form, scoring 72 off only 30 balls.
Young Harman also showed his talent by scoring 59 runs in 44 balls.
Sunrisers maintained the rhythm through captain Aiden Markram (44 not out off 34 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (27 not out off 13 balls).
The total proved too much for the Super Giants, as the visitors were bundled out for 86 runs.
Coach Lance Klusener shuffled the batting line-up to give Mathieu Bretzke an SA20 debut, moving skipper Quinton de Kock to No.5.
Unfortunately for the Super Giants the change in strategy did not prove successful with only Viaan Mulder (29) and Keshav Maharaj (12) managing to cross the 200 mark through the visiting batting line-up with the experienced van der Merwe. Be successful
