Rain interrupted India-Sri Lanka match, disappointment on players’ faces

The fourth match of the Super-4 stage in Asia Cup 2023 is being played between India and Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India won the toss and decided to bat first.

The team has scored 197 runs for 9 wickets in 47 overs. Akshar Patel and Mohammad Siraj are unbeaten.

Kuldeep Yadav was out on zero. He was caught by Charith Asalanka at the hands of Dhananjay de Silva. This is Asalanka’s fourth wicket. He also dismissed Jasprit Bumrah (5 runs), Ravindra Jadeja (4 runs), Ishan Kishan (33 runs).

Earlier, Dunith Vellalagage dismissed Hardik Pandya (5 runs), KL Rahul (39 runs), captain Rohit Sharma (53 runs), Virat Kohli (3 runs) and Shubman Gill (19 runs).

Fifty partnership of Rahul-Ishaan took over

After the top order returned to the pavilion, wicketkeepers KL Rahul and Ishan took over India’s innings. Both of them batted carefully and took the team’s score from 100 to 150. Rahul was out after scoring 39 runs on 44 balls. Fifty partnership between the two was broken. Rahul and Ishaan made a partnership of 63 runs on 89 balls. After Rahul, Ishan Kishan also became the victim of Charith Asalanka after scoring 33 runs in 61 balls.

Rohit’s third consecutive fifty

Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored his third consecutive fifty in ODI. This is the 51st fifty of Rohit’s ODI career. Rohit scored 53 runs on 48 balls at a strike rate of 110.42. His innings included 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Opening partnership of 80 runs

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made an opening partnership of 80 runs on 67 balls. This partnership was broken by Dunit Vellalaghe by bowling Gill.

Powerplay: India’s fast start

The Indian openers gave a fast start to the team. In 10 overs of powerplay, the Indian team scored 65 runs without any loss. Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 39 and Shubhman Gill remained unbeaten on 18 runs.

Akshar gets a chance in place of Shardul

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has made one change in the team against Sri Lanka. He has given a chance to Akshar Patel in place of Shardul Thakur. On the other hand, there was no change in the Sri Lankan team.

Shreyas Iyer is not playing again today. He did not play against Pakistan due to injury. Iyer has a back injury. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has informed on social media regarding his injury that Shreyas Iyer is better than before. Doctors have advised him rest. At present, the weather in Colombo is clear, there was light rain in the morning.

India and Sri Lanka face each other for the 20th time

Both the teams will face each other for the 20th time in the ODI format of the Asia Cup. The last time both of them faced each other was in 2014.

This is India’s second match in the Super-4 stage. The team had won the first match against Pakistan by 228 runs on Monday itself. The Sri Lankan team had defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs in the first match of its Super-4.
