Veteran Indian batsman and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant met former cricketer Vinod Kambli on Monday. The trio spent time in the nets just before leaving for the South Africa tour starting next month. Kambli, who played 17 Tests for India between 1993 and 1995, gave Rahane some batting tips. Ajinkya, who has been battling poor form for the past few years, would also like to take full advantage of this meeting.
The recently concluded home Test series against New Zealand was also bad for Rahane. Later, he was removed from the vice-captaincy of the Test and the responsibility was handed over to Rohit Sharma. However, Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the three-Test series against South Africa due to a hamstring injury. The new vice-captain has not yet been announced.
Ajinkya Rahane is scoring runs with an average of less than 17 in Tests this year. Rishabh Pant, Vinod Kambli and his son Cristiano were also present along with Rahane, who was going through the worst phase of his career. Vinod Kambli tweeted the photo and wrote, ‘Happy to help Ajinkya and Rishabh in training for the upcoming South Africa series. He also gave him some tips about the conditions in South Africa. Best wishes to both. Cristiano also got to learn a lot.
While Rahane and Pant were training before the overseas tour, team opener Mayank Agarwal came to seek blessings from his grandmother. The 30-year-old right-handed batsman said that he does not go to play a match without getting the hinges from his grandmother. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, he is ready to open the innings along with his special friend and KL Rahul of Bengaluru.
Rohit Sharma out of test series with injury
Rohit was recently appointed as the vice-captain of the Test team along with being handed over the captaincy of the ODIs. The BCCI is yet to announce the acting vice-captain, but Lokesh Rahul is believed to be the front runner in the race to become the vice-captain for the Test series. Other contenders could be Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin. Ajinkya Rahane was recently dropped from the role of vice-captain as his place in the playing XI is not confirmed.
