According to Pakistan’s news website Geo News, the new administration in the Pakistan Cricket Board is looking for a complete change. It will start with Captain Babar Azam. Apart from this, Chief Coach Saqlain Mushtaq and Bowling Coach Shaun Tait will also be removed. The report added that there will be a foreign coach leading the setup with three different captains for three different formats.
Changes will be made after the Pakistan Super League in March this year. The news comes in the wake of Pakistan’s recent poor show in the home series, where they lost three out of five Test matches, raising questions over Babar Azam’s leadership in the red-ball format. The report said, “The PCB is considering removing Babar Azam from the captaincy of all formats and appointing separate captains for all three formats.”
Sources said that the inclusion of Shan Masood as the vice-captain in the ODI series against New Zealand in place of Shadab Khan was part of the same long-term strategy. The latest news is that the names of Sarfaraz Ahmed and Shan Masood are being discussed for the Test captaincy. It is believed that the name of Shan Masood is at the forefront. On the other hand, the ODI captaincy is almost certain to go to Shan Masood. Under the leadership of Babar, Pakistan reached the final of the 2022 T20 World Cup and the semi-finals of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Hopefully his captaincy will remain in T20.
