Dubai: Pakistan’s famous umpire Aleem Dar has decided to withdraw from the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires. Aleem, who has been a part of the elite panel since its inception in 2002, holds the record for umpiring the most number of matches in ODIs and Tests. He is second in terms of umpiring in International T20 matches. The record of umpiring in most matches in T20 International is in the name of his compatriot Ehsan Raza.
Aleem officiated in 144 Tests, 222 One Day Internationals and 69 T20 Internationals. He said that I have come a long way and enjoyed every moment. According to Aleem, ‘Although I am still keen to continue working as an international umpire, I felt it was the right time to step down from the elite panel to give someone else a chance. I would like to tell the umpires around the world to work hard, follow the discipline and keep learning.
In the year 2022, Aleem Dar was embroiled in a controversy when he got into an argument with third umpire Joe Wilson during DRS during the second Test played between Pakistan and England. The incident occurred in the 19th over of England’s innings when, after an LBW appeal from debutant Abrar Ahmed, Aleem Dar raised his finger, but batsman Ben Duckett took a quick review. The third umpire gave the decision in favor of Ben Duckett and asked Aleem Dar to change his decision. Dar did not appear satisfied and reluctantly reversed the decision.
Meanwhile, Adrian Holdstock of South Africa and Ehsan Raza of Pakistan have been included in the elite panel. Now the number of umpires in the elite panel has increased from 11 to 12. It also includes India’s Nitin Menon.
