Pakistan played in the right spirit; Will consider playing in PSL in future: Williamson

Sharjah. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has said that Pakistan played the Super 12 match of the ICC T20 World Cup against his team in the right spirit on Tuesday. Babar Azam’s team was expected to show some aggressive approach after the Black Caps abandoned the tour of Pakistan last month due to security threats.

Several former Pakistani cricketers and commentators have been vocal about New Zealand after Pakistan’s limited-overs tour was canceled hours before the start of the opening ODI in Rawalpindi last month. After this the game of T20 World Cup was being termed as a revenge match.

Asked during the post-match press conference whether Pakistani players were aggressive towards New Zealand cricketers, Williamson said, “No, they played in the right spirit.” I believe, and have a great feeling. They are very competitive, a proud cricketing nation, and they have proved it tonight. They have been excellent in the first few games of this tournament. I’m sure they’ll be very, very competitive throughout the back end as well. Their expectations are high, there should be no doubt about it.

Speaking about the cancellation of the tour due to the perception of a security threat, Williamson, whose team went down by five wickets in a low-scoring game on Tuesday, said, it is clearly a big deal for Pakistani cricket fans and cricketers. There was an unfortunate, hopeless situation; A decision that was out of the players’ control.

Asked if he would play in the Pakistan Super League if given a chance, Williamson said it was a real shame not to play in the first place in the series.

“Pakistan League is a wonderful league. Sometimes that struggle, I guess, comes with some of our cricket back home. So it’s always tough, but as an international player, you often see these other opportunities when the time is right, and they are always great experiences. I’ve heard great things from other players who have played there as well. Yes, I guess, it’s something to consider in the future. (IANS)
