Hyderabad: Michael Bracewell, who scored a 78-ball 140 in the first ODI against India, has inherited a cricketing family and has made a mark despite making a late national debut. Chasing 350 for victory in the first ODI, New Zealand lost six wickets for 131 runs. Although Bracewell had single-handedly brought the team close to victory but missed by 12 runs.
The 31-year-old Bracewell, who made his international debut in March last year, had earlier scored an unbeaten 127 against Ireland when New Zealand were 153 for six at one stage. In his family, Uncle John Bracewell, Brendan Bracewell and cousin Doug Bracewell have also played Test cricket. His father Mark played first-class cricket for New Zealand.
After the match, Bracewell said, ‘I have got a lot of advantage of domestic cricket experience. I know how to play. This experience is paying off in international cricket.
Bracewell, who has played 100 first-class matches, has played a lot of T20 cricket in New Zealand and was seen playing fearlessly in the same fashion. He said, ‘T20 has had a lot of impact on me. This has made ODI cricket exciting. You can play your natural game in any situation. Things learned in T20 cricket are very useful in ODIs.
