Chennai: Five-time champions Mumbai Indians have made it to the second qualifier match of IPL 2023 while maintaining their comeback. The team captained by Rohit Sharma unilaterally defeated Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator match. Mumbai won by 81 runs on the basis of record performance of Akash Madhwal (5/5). With this victory, Mumbai has taken one more step towards the final, where it will face Gujarat Titans to reach.
Mumbai started this season with defeat in two consecutive matches. On top of that, the team was already playing without Jasprit Bumrah while the other leading fast bowler in the form of Jofra Archer was also not fully fit and dropped out in the middle of the season. In such a situation, it seemed difficult for Mumbai to reach the playoffs, but now the team is close to playing the final. Lucknow was eliminated in the Eliminator for the second consecutive season.
In the toss itself, Mumbai captain Rohit Sharma won the first game and decided to bat first. However, he himself failed to prove it right and was dismissed in the fourth over. Whereas Ishan Kishan left after some good shots. Rohit was dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq, while Yash Thakur made Ishan Kishan his victim. The team had lost 2 wickets only for 38 runs.
From here Cameron Green started an explosive counter attack and in this he was joined by Suryakumar Yadav. Both made a tremendous partnership of 66 runs in just 38 balls and took the team to 100 runs by the 11th over itself. However, both became victims of Naveen in the 11th over. Despite this, Tilak Verma, Tim David and Nehal Wadhera played short but quick innings to take the team to a strong score of 182 runs.
