Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has supported Team India to be made different captains in different formats. Also, for the first time, he talked about the difference, or comparison, in the leadership of the two. He said that it is the right way to test the captaincy of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Shastri also compared the two to Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.
Shastri, who was the mentor of Team India till the T20 World Cup, said, ‘It is not easy for the same captain to handle all three formats in this epidemic.’ After Kohli relinquished the captaincy after the T20 World Cup, Sharma was made the captain of the format. Just before the departure of the Indian Test team for South Africa, Sharma was appointed the captain of the ODIs as well.
Shastri said on Star Sports’ show Bold and Brave, ‘I think this is the right way to go about his skills. This can prove to be a boon for Virat and Rohit, as I don’t think it is easy for a single captain to handle all three formats in this pandemic. Shastri further said, ‘Both are very good captains, but we want to play to win. We realized very early that we need to take 20 wickets to win. So we decided to play aggressive and fearless cricket.

It is noteworthy that Virat Kohli is currently captaining the team playing the Test series in South Africa, while Rohit Sharma is training at the National Cricket Academy. He withdrew from the Test series against South Africa due to injury.
