Kohli-Rohit reminds Ravi Shastri of Kapil-Sunny, big statement on captaincy

New Delhi
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has supported Team India to be made different captains in different formats. Also, for the first time, he talked about the difference, or comparison, in the leadership of the two. He said that it is the right way to test the captaincy of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Shastri also compared the two to Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.

Comparing the leadership of the two, the former coach said, ‘When you look at both and compare their captaincy, I miss Sunny and Kapil. Kapil was very much like Virat. Used to go with spontaneous and gut feeling. Rohit, on the other hand, is calculated like Gavaskar, very skilful, very calm and with strategy. He added, ‘I don’t think the team was really too concerned about what was going on outside. They were professionals.

Shastri, who was the mentor of Team India till the T20 World Cup, said, ‘It is not easy for the same captain to handle all three formats in this epidemic.’ After Kohli relinquished the captaincy after the T20 World Cup, Sharma was made the captain of the format. Just before the departure of the Indian Test team for South Africa, Sharma was appointed the captain of the ODIs as well.

Shastri said on Star Sports’ show Bold and Brave, ‘I think this is the right way to go about his skills. This can prove to be a boon for Virat and Rohit, as I don’t think it is easy for a single captain to handle all three formats in this pandemic. Shastri further said, ‘Both are very good captains, but we want to play to win. We realized very early that we need to take 20 wickets to win. So we decided to play aggressive and fearless cricket.

Virat is not alone… BCCI has been insulting its veterans
