New Delhi (Hindustan Times). Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been signed by Kent for the remainder of the County Championship season. Chahal, who was not selected for the ongoing Asia Cup as well as the upcoming domestic ODI World Cup, will be available for Kent’s three home matches against Nottinghamshire, Lancashire and Somerset.
“Playing in English county cricket is an exciting challenge for me and I am very much looking forward to it,” Chahal told Cricbuzz.
The spinner has become the second Indian to play for Kent in this year’s County Championship, after left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh played in June and July.
With Kent missing the services of Matt Parkinson until next year and Hamid Qadri injured, Kent’s director of cricket, Paul Downton, praised Chahal’s acquisition.
“We are delighted to have secured a quality spinner in Yuzvendra for the last three Championship games of the season, with Matt Parkinson not available to us until next year and Hami Qadri having recently been injured,” Downton said.
“He is really looking forward to playing in English conditions and will bring a significant amount of skill and international experience to our team,” he added.
Although Chahal is yet to play Test cricket for India, he has played 33 first-class matches for Haryana, taking 87 wickets.
