IPL 2023: Started playing at the age of 25, now broke 13 years old record, even veterans could not do this feat

New Delhi: IPL means the place where talent gets opportunity. Then no matter what the age, no matter what the experience is. The world’s biggest T20 league, from the beginning till now, has given a platform to big veterans and new players to mingle and learn. This trend continues in IPL 2023 as well and if any one name will be taken in the best discovery of this season, then it is- Akash Madhwalwho made a special record.

Even before the start of this season, Mumbai Indians were shocked due to the exit of their star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. Still it was expected that Joffra Archer would fill the gap but that too could not happen. In such a situation, a bowler got a chance in the form of Akash Madhwal, who had played cricket with tennis ball till the age of 24-25, that too as an amateur.

Match winning performance in Eliminator

Mumbai’s buzz this season revolved around talented young batsmen like Tilak Verma, Nehal Wadhera and expensive foreign players like Cameron Green and Tim David. He contributed to the team’s victory in different matches. In all this, 29-year-old fast bowler Akash Madhwal left his mark like a hidden Rustom. This pacer, who came from Uttarakhand, played a big role in taking the team to the playoffs by bowling tremendously in the last matches of the league stage.

This is Akash’s debut season and apparently for the first time he was playing in the playoffs as well. Akash, who started playing cricket with regular cricket ball (leather ball) only for 4 years, created history in Chennai on the evening of Wednesday 24th May. Against Lucknow Super Giants, Akash took just 5 runs in 3.3 overs and took 5 wickets to win the team.

13 year old record destroyed

This performance of Akash took the team to Qualifier-2 on one hand, while Akash’s name was registered in the special record of IPL. Akash became the first bowler to take 5 wickets in a playoff/knockout match. Remember, there have been legendary bowlers like Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah in this league and in this team, but they too could not do this feat.

Prior to Akash, the record of best bowling in playoff/knockout was made by Chennai Super Kings pacer Doug Ballinger 13 years back. He took 4 wickets by giving 13 runs. Not only this, Akash equaled the best bowling performance of any Indian bowler in IPL. Before him, great leg-spinner Anil Kumble also took 5 wickets for 5 runs.
