New Delhi (EMS). The 141st session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will be held in Mumbai from October 15 to 17, 2023. It is believed that this is the first step towards bringing the Olympic Games to India. On hosting the IOC session, its first Indian private member Nita Ambani had said that sports have always been a symbol of hope and inspiration for millions of people around the world. We are one of the youngest countries in the world today and I am extremely excited to introduce the Olympics to the youth of India.
We want to host Olympic Games in the future. The IOC session is considered the first step towards hosting these games. It is noteworthy that the IOC session is the top body that takes decisions on the Olympic Games. This includes adopting or revising the Olympic Charter, electing IOC members and office-bearers, and choosing the host city of the Olympics. Just as there are discussions about including cricket in the Olympics and if a decision is taken to include it in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, then it will be announced in this IOC session in Mumbai itself. There is a long list of world’s leading sports personalities visiting India during the IOC session. This includes celebrities like International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, International Association of Athletics Federation President Sebastian Coe, Prince Albert II of Monaco and pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva. Earlier in 1983, New Delhi had hosted the 86th edition of the IOC session. Even after that India could not get a place in the Olympics.
