Who in place of Iyer and Akshar?
Due to Shreyas Iyer’s ouster, Suryakumar Yadav’s lottery has started. Surya got a chance to play the last match against Sri Lanka as Hardik Pandya was rested. Hardik will return to the playing XI in the first match against New Zealand. In such a situation Surya would have to be out. But due to Iyer’s injury, he can remain in the playing XI. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli are sure to stay in the top three along with Rohit Sharma.
Team India has two contenders for Akshar Patel’s place. Off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar and left-arm spin all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed. Sundar got a chance in the last match against Sri Lanka and he can continue in the XI in this match as well. In that match, he neither got his bat nor did he get a chance to bowl.
How will the bowling attack be?
Mohammed Shami is sure to play with Mohammed Siraj as the fast bowler. For the third fast bowler, the team has the option of Shardul Thakur and Umran Malik. Shardul can bat and that is why he seems to have the upper hand. Umran took wickets against Sri Lanka but also scored runs against them. At the same time, Yuzvendra Chahal may have to sit out in spin bowling. Kuldeep got a chance after he got injured and took 5 wickets in two matches.
Possible playing XI of India: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Ishaan Kishan (Wicketkeeper), Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj.
