Mumbai: After the Test series victory, the Indian team is now eyeing the ODI series, which is going to start from March 17 at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit Sharma will not play in the first match, due to which the captaincy will be done by Hardik Pandya. Acting captain Pandya along with several players of the team practiced at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday. In the playing XI, two wrist spinners are competing against two fingers spinners, on one side there is a pair of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal and on the other side there are all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.

In the three-match ODI series, Kuldeep and Chahal would like to strengthen their claim for this year’s World Cup by showing the wonders of their googly, flipper and leg break. Both Kuldeep and Chahal are not expert in batting. However, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep has found some success with the bat at the Test level. Washington and Jadeja have good hold in both bowling and batting, but Kuldeep and Chahal are ahead of them when it comes to spin skills.

Fast bowlers Mohammad Siraj, Jaydev Unadkat, Umran Malik, Shardul Thakur and batsmen Suryakumar Yadav and wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan also took part in the practice session. India’s head coach Rahul Dravid did not attend the practice session, but other members of the coaching staff, batting coach Vikram Rathour, fielding coach T. Dileep and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, throwdown specialists Raghavendra and Nuwan Seneviratne were present.

KL Rahul, India’s first choice batting number five and wicket-keeping duties, also did not take part in the practice, having been dropped from the playing XI after the first two Tests in Nagpur and New Delhi. Pandya, who was appointed as the vice-captain for the series, took some bowling practice. Suryakumar, Kishan and Pandya took long batting practice. Siraj, who played till the third Test in Indore, also spent a lot of time batting in front of spinners and fast bowlers. The Australian players also took part in a practice session in the afternoon.
