Lucknow . Former India left-handed batsman Gautam Gambhir and New Zealand fast bowler all-rounder James Neesham criticized the nature of the Lucknow pitch during the second T20 International between India and New Zealand at the Ekana Stadium on Sunday. New Zealand could only manage 99 runs in their 20 overs at the loss of eight wickets. In reply, India chased down the target. New Zealand used five spinners to put pressure on the Indian team.
With three runs needed from two balls, Suryakumar Yadav smashed Blair Tickner over mid-off for four to level the three-match series at 1-1. The spinners of both the teams bowled 30 of the 40 overs in the match, with no six hit by the batsmen of either team.
Gambhir also expressed his surprise at how the game went to the wire, “I was surprised by the way the Indian batsmen played against spin. They could have played better and shouldn’t have taken them so seriously. New Zealand were very Was competitive and great captaincy from Mitchell Santner.”
On the other hand, Neesham pointed out that none of the batsmen got the pace they wanted on the sticky red-clay pitch in Lucknow.
Meanwhile, with the three-match series now level at 1-1, India and New Zealand will play the decider at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
