New Delhi. Narsingh Yadav, the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist and 2014 Asiad bronze winner, is in Mumbai. They fear that some facilities like gym should not be closed due to Covid. If the facilities are closed, their practice for this year’s Birmingham Commonwealth Games could also make a difference. Yadav said, “I am looking forward to repeating my gold medal winning performance in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, but she is up against the third wave of the pandemic.” I am still doing my training continuously, but gradually gyms and training facilities are being closed.
I have also become more cautious now seeing the way covid is spreading. I only hope that the situation does not deteriorate to such an extent that the government needs to impose a lockdown.
Narsingh Yadav, who started training to become a wrestler at the age of 13, is the son of a milk seller. He was born in Varanasi. He won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, followed by a bronze medal at the 2014 Asian Games and the 2015 World Championships.
Yadav told IANS, “I hope this year’s Commonwealth Games will be the same for me as it was in 2010. My training is going very well.
Asked whether he trains with his wife Shilpi Sheoran, who was a gold medalist in the 63kg category at the 2016 South Asian Games. “My wife and I train together and I get their full support,” Yadav said.
Does being a police officer make it difficult to balance your wrestling with your work? Yadav said, “My officers support me a lot because they know that I am representing the country.”
Yadav said he maintains his competition weight with the help of his nutritionist. (IANS)
