Shubman Gill (208 runs) scored a double hundred as India recovered from Michael Bracewell’s blistering knock to seal a 12-run win over New Zealand in the ODI series opener. India scored 349 for eight thanks to Gill’s 149-ball innings studded with 19 fours and nine sixes. Chasing this big target, the New Zealand team had lost six wickets for 131 runs but Bracewell (140 runs in 78 balls) got his team back in the match by scoring a brilliant century. Bracewell put on 162 runs in 102 balls with Mitchell Santner (57 runs in 45 balls), which was New Zealand’s best seventh-wicket partnership in ODIs, which raised the pulse of the Indian players as well as the spectators. Fast bowler Mohammad Siraj (4 for 46), playing in front of the home crowd, gave a match-winning performance and New Zealand’s team could only manage 337 runs.
