A strange incident happened in the fourth Test of the Ashes series between Australia and England. The Australian players were surprised when Cameron Green’s ball hit Ben Stokes’ off-stump but the bails did not fall. Ben Stokes got life. The Australian players could not believe it and shook the stumps to see if there was any ‘panga’.
On the third day of the match, Australia continued to dominate England. England lost four wickets in the first session. Scott Boland gave two blows to the visiting team by taking two consecutive wickets.
After lunch, Ben Stokes and Jon Bairstow, however, took charge of their team in the second session. But Australia had achieved a strong position by scoring 416 for 8 in the first innings. By the time of writing the news in the third session, England’s score is 245 runs for seven wickets.
Stokes was batting on 16 when he got lucky. The umpire gave him LBW but Stokes took a review on this. Video replays showed that Cameron Green’s ball hit the batsman’s off-stump.
Shane Warne was doing commentary at that time and he was very surprised to see how the umpire finally raised his finger. He said, ‘Was he given out? How surprising is this?’
Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar also joked on the incident on Twitter. Sachin Tendulkar wrote, ‘Should a new rule be introduced ‘hitting the stump after the ball hit the wicket and the bails did not fall? What do you think guys?” Sachin also tagged Shane Warne in this post.
While sharing the video, Dinesh Karthik also wrote – When you have faith in your off-stump and off-stump you have faith in you.
Stokes eventually became the victim of Nathan Lyon after scoring 66 runs.
