Australia’s explosive entry in the quarter-finals, crushed South Africa 9-2

Rourkela: Star forward Blake Govers scored four goals as Australia thrashed South Africa 9-2 on Friday to top Pool A and book a place in the quarter-finals of the FIH Men’s World Cup. Australia will take on the winner of the cross-over match between Malaysia and Spain in the quarter-finals on January 24 in Bhubaneswar. Gowers scored in the 4th, 15th, 19th and 20th minutes as Australia took a strong 7–1 lead at the interval. Govers kicked the first and fourth field goals. He scored the second goal on a penalty corner and the third on a penalty stroke.

Apart from him, Tom Craig (10th), Jake Harvey (22nd), Daniel Beale (28th), Jeremy Hayward (32nd) and Tim Brand (47th) scored for Australia. Natuli Nkobile (8th) and Koke Tevin (58th) scored for South Africa. Australia slowed down a bit in the third and fourth quarters. He scored one goal each in both these quarters. Australia scored five field goals and three on penalty corners.

Australia earned a total of eight penalty corners while South Africa earned five. In another Pool A match, Argentina and France scored a goal each in the last minute to end the match at 5-5. Argentina finished second in the pool with five points, while France finished third with four points. Argentina will play the third-placed team from Pool B in their crossover match on January 22, while France will play the second-placed team from Pool B on January 23.

Victor Charlot scored a last-minute penalty stroke that looked to have won the match 5–4 for France, but Argentina equalized with a penalty corner seconds before the end of the match. Argentina got four penalty corners in a row, converting the last one.

Charlotte (36th, 38th, 48th and 60th) scored four goals for France. He scored two of these goals on the penalty stroke. The other goal for France was scored by Tynevez Etienne in the 11th minute. Nicolas Della Torre (34th, 42nd and 60th) scored a hat-trick for Argentina, who drew 3-3 with Australia, while Keenan Nicholls (3rd) and Martin Ferreiro (51st) scored the other goals.
