Melbourne: Former Test opener and current Australia head coach Justin Langer was on Thursday inducted into the Australian Hall of Fame. Apart from Langer, former fast bowler and women’s team captain Raelee Thompson has also been inducted into the Hall of Fame. CA CEO Nick Hockley said, “Rayley and Langer have been inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame, established in 1996, at number 58 and 59 respectively.”
Langer, who made his Test debut 29 years ago, scored 7,696 runs for Australia at an average of 45.27. He played at number three in the first year of his career, including the famous partnership with Adam Gilchrist to chase down 369 to defeat Pakistan at Hobart in 1999. “As coach of Western Australia and more recently as head coach of the Australian team, Justin Langer has had a tremendous impact on Australian cricket,” said Hockley.
