Auckland. The limited overs tour between New Zealand and Australia, scheduled from January 24 to February 9, has been postponed. The tournament will be postponed until further notice due to New Zealand’s border controls and necessary COVID protocols. New Zealand Cricket (NJC) and Cricket Australia (CA) have had proposals to extend the tournament so that Kiwi players can return after meeting the COVID protocols, but the proposal was confirmed by the New Zealand government on Wednesday. And further discussion on this is going on.
The teams were to play three One Day Internationals (ODIs) starting on 30 January at the Optus Stadium in Perth, followed by a one-off T20I tournament on 8 February at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.
Discussions are on when the postponed tournament between CA and NZC will be played.
CA CEO Nick Hockley said, “We are extremely disappointed that we will not be able to play the match as scheduled against New Zealand as per protocol, however we will continue to work with New Zealand Cricket to reschedule the series.”
We thank NZC for making every effort in this direction.
He said, we know fans will be disappointed and would like to thank the government for their understanding in view of the COVID pandemic. We look forward to welcoming Sri Lanka to Australia next month and will confirm for that series as soon as possible.
NZC Chief Executive David White said, “As we now know, Omicron, the new variant of COVID, has changed the way the government thinks, resulting in a ten-day quarantine for all incoming passengers.
It is expected that CA will confirm the schedule of their upcoming T20 Internationals against Sri Lanka in the coming days. (IANS)
