Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has said that the massive success of the IPL Media Rights e-Auction (2023-27) will further strengthen the foundation of cricket. Along with this, young players will also get inspiration. The world’s richest cricket board got Rs 48,390.32 crore from the IPL media rights auction, but Ganguly said cricket is not just for money, but for talent.
In a statement on BCCI, Ganguly said, the game of cricket is not just about money, it is about talent. IPL e-auction showed how strong the game is in our country.
Ganguly said, the story of IPL’s growth and its phenomenal growth in the sports world is the result of the immense faith of the people in the BCCI leadership and its staff to work in all odds. I am sure that with the continued support of everyone in the eco-system, we will be able to take the brand IPL to new heights on the global sports platform.
The successful bidders will now acquire media rights worth Rs 48,390.32 crore from IPL Season 2023 to IPL Season 2027, subject to the execution of documents and completion of formalities as required by the BCCI.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the new round of auctions has propelled the IPL into the biggest league of the global sport.
He said that the money coming into cricket will help the game at the grassroots level. Also said that the board is committed to start the women’s IPL next year.
“The whole idea is to balance cricketing and business interests as BCCI is committed to the development of sports in the country through cricket,” he said. The money we earn through media rights will ultimately benefit grassroots cricket in India. Apart from creating maximum opportunities for the development of women’s cricket in the country, BCCI is also committed to start the women’s IPL in 2023.
BCCI treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal said the media rights revenue will also help promote IPL as Made in India.
