Johannesburg (EMS). Team India’s fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has made a big record in his name by taking five wickets against South Africa in ODI cricket. He has become the first Indian fast bowler to take five wickets in an ODI against South Africa. 24-year-old fast bowler Arshdeep achieved this feat during the first ODI between India and South Africa in Johannesburg. Arshdeep performed brilliantly with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 37 runs with an economy rate of 3.7 in 10 overs. The fast bowler demolished South Africa’s top order by taking the wickets of Reeza Hendricks, Tony de Jorji and Rassie van der Dussen in his first spell. Later, he showed dangerous looking Heinrich Klaasen and all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo the way to the pavilion. Overall, he is the fourth bowler for India to take five wickets in ODI against South Africa. For the first time, spinner Sunil Joshi (5/6) took five wickets in an innings against the Proteas in 1999. He was followed by spinners Yuzvendra Chahal (5/22 2018 at Centurion) and Ravindra Jadeja (5/33 2023 Kolkata).
After his brilliant bowling performance, Arshdeep said that he was trying to keep things simple and it is great to start his wickets with a five-wicket haul in an ODI. He said, I did not open my account in ODI. It was great to start with five wickets in the innings. The wicket was helpful. When we talked, we thought there wouldn’t be much movement. But we were surprised, there was also wind so the plan was to keep it wicket to wicket which would help in getting wickets. He said, adaptability is important for us as bowlers. I am proud to represent and serve the country.
