Buenos Aires (Argentina). Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has thanked the fans for guiding Albiceleste to their first World Cup title for the first time since 1986. Millions of supporters took to the streets of Buenos Aires on Tuesday to congratulate Argentina’s players after Sunday’s dramatic penalty shootout win over France. Scolani, 44, expressed his gratitude to all the fans.
“The dream of all Argentinians has come true,” Scaloni said in a social media post. I am eternally grateful and excited to see you happy. You were player number 12.
Among the more than 300,000 people who liked the post was former Argentina captain Javier Mascherano, who wrote, “Thank you.”
A planned parade of Argentine players in an open-air bus on Tuesday had to be canceled for the safety of millions of people attending amid chaotic scenes, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Albaceleste squad later continued the parade with a helicopter flyby.
Scaloni has led Argentina to the World Cup, Copa America and CONMEBOL-UEFA finals since taking charge of the national team in 2018.
