PIB. Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur today interacted with the Sports Ministers of all the states and union territories of the country through virtual medium. Following the huge success of the Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo, today’s meeting will prepare a roadmap for preparing our athletes keeping in mind the future Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games and the contribution of the states in promoting sports at the grassroots level. was held for consideration. During the discussion, Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur asked the States and Union Territories to send their views on creating a common pool of cash prizes for athletes where both the Central and State Governments can pool together funds. Sports is a state subject and the overall objective of this interaction is to urge the states to play an important role in organizing sports competitions in rural and urban areas for physically able and para-athletes as well as in identification of talent at the grassroots level.
