Where does Pakistan Super League stand?
The Pakistan Super League, which began in 2015 with five teams, compares itself to the IPL but perhaps forgets that its brand value pales in comparison to the Indian Premier League. Men’s IPL earns Rs 107.5 crore per match from broadcasting rights. Women’s IPL earns Rs 7.05 crore per match, while PSL earns only Rs 2.44 crore per match.
Ambani’s company bought the rights
Viacom18 has bought the media rights by beating Disney Star and Sony. The auction for the T20 league was held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Monday. The first women’s IPL is expected to start in the first week of March. There are three categories of global rights which include TV, digital and composite rights. Viacom18 made a successful bid for the joint rights.
Women’s cricket will benefit
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, “Broadcasters play a vital role in taking the game to a wider audience and their active interest in the league is a clear indication that the Women’s Indian Premier League is headed in the right direction. There is a per match valuation of Rs seven crore nine lakh which was never received earlier for women’s matches.
Pakistan’s condition is bad
The economy of Pakistan, which has reached the verge of bankruptcy, has collapsed. Wazir-e-Azam Shahbaz Sharif is seeking loans from countries like China and Saudi Arabia. According to Pakistani news channel Geo TV, ‘Shahbaz Sharif while addressing a government program said that seeking foreign loan is not the solution to Pakistan’s economic challenges as the loan will have to be returned.’
