Mumbai. Indian para athlete Sumit Antil won a gold medal in javelin throwing at the Tokyo Paralympic Games earlier this year. He has set a target of throwing the javelin up to 80 meters next season. Antil, who won gold in the men’s javelin throw F64 at the Tokyo Paralympics in August, broke his own world record (62.88m) in the final to win the 68.55m javelin throw gold in his first attempt. Now he says that he can throw javelin up to the mark of 80 meters.
“I feel like I can hit the 80m mark with ease,” Antil told the International Paralympic Committee’s award-winning official podcast A Winning Mindset Season Two. I don’t know why, but I can do it.
“I just want to break this record (68.55m) as soon as possible,” said Antil. I could probably throw the javelin up to the 80 to 85 meter mark. I will definitely touch the 85m mark. I am working on my technique right now.
In a free-wheeling talk, Antil talks about his life after success.
“My life has completely changed and people now know who Sumit Antil is. When I reached India from Tokyo, I was given a grand welcome in my home town.
He said that receiving Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is the biggest honor for a sportsperson in the country. (IANS)
