This was Jadeja’s first century overseas. He said after the third day’s play at Edgbaston, “I am very happy that I scored a century outside India and that too in England. This is a big thing for a player. ,
Jadeja said, “I will take this century scored in difficult conditions in England as a confidence boost. ,
Jadeja’s batting has improved a lot over the years. He said that the most important thing for a batsman to succeed in England is the ability to guess the ball.
“In England you have to play close to your body because if you try to play cover drives and square drivers, you have chances to get behind the wicket and into the slips. ,
He said, “So my focus was to release the balls going outside the off-stump. I thought I would hit those balls which would be close to me. And I was lucky that every ball I played was close to me. You have to know your off-stump and let go of the balls going outside the off-stump. ,
Jadeja, who scored the second century of his career, said, “The ball swings in England conditions so you have to discipline your batting. You have to choose to play the balls going towards the fourth and fifth stumps. On 40, 50 and 70, you can get out on a good ball. ,
“I was thinking that if I get a good ball then I can’t do anything but at least I shouldn’t try to play bad shots and try to hit boundaries. If the ball comes within my range, I will hit it. ,
The Saurashtra all-rounder said that he does not believe in ‘tag’. “I would not like to give myself any ‘tag’. Whatever is the requirement of the team, I will try to play accordingly. As an all-rounder, there are situations when you have to add runs and save or win matches for the team. ,
He said, “In bowling you are expected to take wickets. I try to do whatever the team needs. ,
