The name of this stadium was Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium, which was also known as Motera Stadium. But in 2015, it was decided to give a new look to this stadium and at the same time it was decided that it would be made the largest stadium in the world. This stadium was ready after almost five years of hard work. The seating capacity of the spectators in this stadium is now one lakh 32 thousand, while the seating capacity of the spectators in the MCG is 90,000. In February 2021, this stadium was inaugurated by the then President Ram Nath Kovind.
At the same time, in the month of February 2020, the then US President Donald Trump visited India and an event was organized for him in this stadium, which was named ‘Namaste Trump’. During this event, the whole world saw the grandeur of this stadium. The stadium was inaugurated a year later.

The first match between this stadium after renovation was played between India and England in March 2021. Apart from this, IPL matches have also been played in this stadium. Recently the title match of IPL-2023 was also played in this stadium. ODI World Cup is to be played in the hosting of India this year. The venue of the World Cup matches has not been announced but there are reports that this venue is in the shortlist venues and the final can also be held in this stadium.
