Sydney: One of Australia’s most experienced T20 cricketers, Daniel Christian has announced that he will retire from cricket after the ongoing Big Bash League 20223. The all-rounder announced his retirement on Twitter on Saturday. Christian will turn 40 in May. During his 17-year career, he represented 18 teams and played 405 T20 Internationals, scoring 5809 runs and taking 280 wickets.
Christian made the announcement ahead of Chris Green’s Sixers match against Sydney Thunder on Saturday 21 January at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Christian has also made a long wide tweet. Prior to Saturday’s match, Christian had played 405 matches, scoring 5809 runs at an average of 22.87 and a strike rate of 138.17, with two centuries and 17 half-centuries. He has also taken 280 wickets in his illustrious career in T20. Christian has also played 20 ODIs and 23 T20Is for Australia, where he scored 391 runs and took 33 wickets.
Christian has also shown his mettle in the Indian Premier League. In the year 2011, he entered the tournament for the first time. Played cricket for Delhi Daredevils, Rising Pune Supergiants and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The year 2021 was his last season, where he also became a victim of criticism. He gave away 22 runs in one over against Kolkata Knight Riders playing for RCB in the knockout match. After being eliminated from the tournament, people made lewd comments on Christian’s pregnant wife.
