The film will narrate the story of the 1980s and 1990s, when Sweety used to be quite a name in dance bars. Samit Kakkar will direct this film. His recent film named ‘Indori Ishq’ was released on MX Player.
Rights was taken only two years ago
According to the report, Sanjay Kumar had taken the rights to make Sweety’s biopic a year or two years ago. And since then the work on this project had also started. Now the film is currently being cast and will be shot in and around Mumbai in the first half of 2022.
Conversation with director and filmmaker
In a special conversation with our colleague Times of India, Sanjay Gupta said, ‘A film is being made on Sweety, this news is confirmed. Sweety’s story has presented itself as a great screenplay which I am sure will turn out to be an entertaining film. Right now we are working on the rest of the film.
At the same time, director Samit Kakkar said, ‘It is a passion project for me and Sanjay. I have experienced Sweety’s fame and fandom. I have spent many years just to understand what happens to dancers when they don’t respond to audience hooting. Through Sweety, I have deeply felt the inside scene of the bar dancers of my city. Now I can’t wait to bring this film to the audience.
