Regina you are playing the role of IPS in this series, how difficult was it and did you do any preparation?
It was very difficult for me to play the role of an IPS in ‘Jambaz Hindustan Ke’. Such a role has to be played with perfection. I did complete research before playing this character. You have a different feeling when you wear the uniform. Responsibility and discipline starts coming in you. So of course I did research for this role. I had seen interviews of many women IPS officers. When I was watching the interview, I focused on how he has balanced his life. How has he balanced both an IPS life and a personal life. Especially being a woman, there are all options in her life like being a mother, being a wife. Then I understood all these things.
In today’s era, we talk about women empowerment, but still women have to face many difficulties not only in personal life but also in society. Due to some incident, you also felt that that incident happened only because you are a woman?
This has happened to me many times in real life. I never believe in violence, but if someone raises a hand on me, I give him an answer. As a woman, I do this to protect myself and it is my right. When I was in college, I was walking over a bridge with a friend. Both of us were walking on the road and two boys were coming from the front. He looked at all the girls, I was the last one. One of them came forward and touched my lips and went ahead. This had never happened in my life. I felt as if the whole world had stopped there and I could not do anything. My friend said why didn’t you answer? So I said that I am not even able to move. Then I realized that I can talk a lot but when a situation like this happens, I cannot do anything. Then I thought that if this happens again, I will not stand by, but will answer.
So have you encountered the same thing again? What did you do then and what message would you like to give to other women?
Yes, the same thing happened again, maybe God must have given me some sign that another incident happened on the same road. That day I was carrying two bags and some boy came and hit me from behind. At that time my mental state was such that I started guessing what happened. Then I thought I had two bags so I couldn’t do anything. Never mind he left. Although I talked about this incident with my friends and family. But when another incident happened to me for the third time, I did not sit silent. Just like that, I was going to my house walking on a road and a boy was coming in front of me waving both his hands. When I came closer, I felt his hand towards me and I thought maybe it was by mistake. Then I turned and saw his body language and suddenly I got so angry that I hit him on the back with all my anger. After that Amma started crying loudly and ran away. He didn’t even look back. Then I understood that he did it intentionally. I think if a girl doesn’t want to talk about it then don’t, but you shouldn’t sit around thinking that because you are a girl or a woman, that’s why this is happening to you. There is no need for you to feel ashamed, because it is not your fault.
