– This mini series of yours is getting good response, so how do you feel?
I was also not expecting to see such a good response from the audience to SK Sir’s Class because whenever you make a big spinoff it doesn’t become as big a hit as the main series. Here, such a reaction was seen from the audience that what to say.
You are from army background, how did you get into acting?
I wanted to join the army. I was always into extracurricular activities but it was not that I would act. Because when you grow up in the army background, you don’t see anything other than that. I always saw my father in uniform, saw his friends and juniors. So other than that I didn’t see anything. But there was no army. I had applied for National Defense Academy for the first time but my form was rejected. I don’t know what I entered wrong, but it happens for the same reason. His message came that the form has been rejected. Then felt what the other was, so I had a habit of talking. The boom of radio came at the same time. Then there were the new stars of radio. I compare him with the influencers of today’s social media. So I also felt that this is a good space, should work in it.

How did you convince the parents for this?
I didn’t have to make much effort for this because father had given me permission to do whatever I wanted to do. All he wanted was to study science after 10th because it is a question of respect. I had good marks in 10th and I wanted to study arts. But science took over and those two years were my worst years. I think 11th and 12th phase was the worst. One, my father was retired, there were expenses at home, then all the children with me were doing coaching from one place or the other. I was the only one who did not have any coaching etc. Then when the teacher used to ask something by writing on the blackboard, all the hands used to stand up and I could not ask anything out of shame. I also feel that in school the study is less from CBSE but more from other books. So there was a lot of pressure on me in those two years. But after that I understood that engineering would not be possible, otherwise I would be in depression for the rest of my life. Although AIEEE was also filled at the behest of father, but the rank in it was very high. When he went to give the IIT exam, he came out in 15 minutes. After that gave the entrance of Journalism in DU. So took admission in Khalsa College. Along with this, the theater also started. Then someone told about the radio which was in Hisar. He auditioned there too and got it. Then I used to get 10 thousand rupees.
SK Sir is from Bihar but your dialect is totally different. So how did you catch that language.
Since I am a radio guy, I catch the language very quickly. More than 50% of the students in my class were from Bihar. That is why many people think that I am from Bihar. But actually I am a hillbilly. In fact, the same discussion happened with our director that Bihar should also be shown in the right way, as when a boy from Bihar comes to Delhi, his tongue slowly starts to clear. I have seen people changing before me. So I didn’t have to be that strong, but I had to seem real.
– What projects do you have now?
Right now I have Ajay Devgan starrer Maidan. I am playing the role of a commentator in this. The director of the film, Amit Sharma, told me long ago that learn to play football, we are going to make a film. I even learned football by hiring a coach for a month, but could not clear the audition. Apart from this there is a web series. Aspirants 2 is also in the works.
– So do you still have to go to auditions?
Now it is mixed. People who have seen a lot of my work don’t take auditions. But people who haven’t seen that much work, they still take auditions. But getting compliments for the work is feeling good because I have not learned acting.
