According to the figures regarding the dead, 26 bodies were recovered from Sikkim and 30 bodies were found in the Teesta river basin in West Bengal. Apart from this, relief work is going on by the Army and Disaster Management Department and the missing people are being searched continuously. However, due to bad weather, relief work is also becoming difficult. In view of this sequence, the government has immediately announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased and has also announced financial assistance of Rs 2000 for the people staying in relief camps. According to the Meteorological Department, the state seems to be getting relief from rain today.

Thousands of tourists are stranded in the grip of this severe flood in Sikkim. According to the information received, about 3000 tourists are reported to be stranded in North Sikkim so far. For this, air rescue operation is being conducted by the army. However, due to bad weather it is facing difficulties. It is reported that the MI-17 helicopter sent by SENI could not succeed due to bad weather. Let us tell you that due to cloud cover in the low lying areas of the affected areas, visibility problems have also been faced. In such a situation, there is difficulty in evacuating the tourists trapped in the flood.
Flood caused massive devastation
Flash floods in Sikkim have caused massive devastation in the state. According to the information received, the number of dead is increasing as the relief work continues. There is debris visible everywhere. So far, more than 25,000 people of the state have been affected by this flood, who have had to take shelter elsewhere. Apart from this, houses of more than 1200 people have been affected by this flood. Apart from this, many bridges, roads and other major structures have also been badly destroyed due to its impact. The affected people are being taken to different relief camps by the army and disaster management staff to take shelter.
Announcement of financial assistance from the government
The government has also announced financial assistance for the people affected by the floods in Sikkim. Under this, the Sikkim government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and also a financial assistance of Rs 2000 for the people staying in relief camps. Apart from this, the government says that due to this severe flood in the state, there has been a loss of thousands of crores of rupees and a committee will be formed to assess it. The first priority of the government is to save people’s lives and provide them relief.
In this sequence, the Union Home Ministry has also approved an advance amount of Rs 44.8 crore from the central part of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to provide relief to the people.
