James Cook University in Australia can be a better option for Indian students who want to study abroad, as the cost of accommodation there is less compared to other leading universities in the world. Vijayaraghavan and Professor Mohan Jacob, Associate Dean, Research Education, College of Science and Engineering, JCU discussed in detail about the courses and facilities available at JCU in a press conference here on Thursday.
VijayRaghavan told IANS that the cost of living in JCU, that is, the cost of accommodation and food, is 40 percent less than other leading universities of the world.
While selecting a college or university, students look at its ranking and placement before living cost. Therefore, when he was asked about the ranking and placement status of JCU, he told that JCU is ranked 28th in the list of Times Higher Education Young University Rankings.
According to JCU’s website, the university was ranked 38th in this category for the last two years but now it is ranked 28th with a jump of 10 points.
Raghavan said that there is 100 per cent placement in the engineering course while the university has 75 per cent placement for all the courses together. Means 75 percent of the students passing out from this university get a job immediately. He said that the degree of JCU is recognized in every country of the world and the students passing out from there have been successful in getting good jobs in different countries of the world.
Mohan Jacob explained in detail about the various engineering courses offered in the university and said that this university is the world’s top in Marine Biology course.
He informed that the University has started new courses of Masters of Engineering, Masters of Global Development and Diploma in Engineering. Admission to these two-year courses will start in February 2019.
When asked about the fee, he said that the fee varies for different courses, but the fee for the new Masters course is 26,000-26,540 Australian dollars.
He said that JCU’s fees for various courses are low as compared to other leading universities of the world, hence JCU is a better option for Indian students who want to study abroad.
He said that the low student-teacher ratio in JCU gives special benefits to the students and special attention is paid to their all-round development.
Raghavan told that for admission in Bachelors course in JCU, it is necessary to have at least 65 percent marks in class 12th. In addition, it is necessary to score in the English Language Proficiency Test required for admission to foreign institutions to qualify.
Admission in JCU is done twice a year. Admission starts in the beginning of the year in February. After this, in the middle of the year, in July, many courses are also admitted.
