New Delhi: There has been an increase in the interest of the tourists in the lesser known tourist destinations of the country. Madhapur in Telangana, Rameswaram and Vellore in Tamil Nadu, Cherrapunji in Meghalaya and Pimpri-Chinchwad in Maharashtra have emerged as the top preferred tourist destinations in the last year. This trend has emerged from the data released on Monday by the vacation rental company Airbnb. This shows that the year 2022 has also seen a strong revival in international travel. This trend is likely to continue in 2023 as well. Indians searched for the most popular cities across the world, according to Airbnb. Additionally, single visits emerged as the most popular trend in the July-September quarter of 2022. Airbnb said the trend to travel to lesser-known destinations has benefited local communities and helped drive a tourism revival.
It said that at the domestic level, Indians made up their mind to move to states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and Telangana. In the third quarter of the year 2022, Indian tourists gathered the most information about cities like Dubai, London, Paris, Toronto and New York internationally. Delhi, Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh are the top rated cities on Airbnb for hospitality. Whereas, the most searched domestic destinations in 2022 were Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.

The growing desire to travel is a positive sign. According to the data, the highest number of bookings in India in 2022 were for Mumbai, New Delhi, Guwahati, Goa and Hyderabad.
