Karnal: If a person does any work with hard work and dedication, then he definitely succeeds. There is one such fisherman in Haryana who had taken a fish pond on contract 35 years ago for Rs 500 and today he is one of the number one fish farmers in India. We are talking about Sultan Singh of village Butana in Karnal district. Those who are earning lakhs of rupees in the business of fish farming and thousands of people have learned the tricks of fish farming from them. Sultan, who has earned a name in the field of fisheries in the country and abroad, told that 36 years ago today, he had taken a pond for fish farming on contract. After which he never looked back. Now he has built Haryana’s first RAS i.e. Recirculating Aquaculture System on 25 acres of land.
Received many awards
Farmer Sultan Singh told that when he initially wanted to build a pond on the ancestral land, his father had refused. But now his family is happy with his success and his father is proud of him. Let us tell you that farmer Sultan Singh surprised the scientists of the whole country by preparing fish seed in a very short time. After which he has been awarded with many big awards. He has received the Babu Jagjivan Ram Award in 2006, the highest award in the field of agriculture, has been awarded the Padma Shri Award by President Kamnath Kovind in 2009, besides many awards including the Quality Summit Award by the US.
What is Recircular Aquaculture System?
Let us first know what is recirculating aquaculture system. Actually, now there is no need for big ponds and much water to start fish farming. Fish farming is being done by making cement tanks with the help of Recircular Aquaculture System (RAS) technology. The central government also helps for this technology. RAS is that technology, in which arrangements are made for the movement of water to maintain the flow of water continuously. It requires less water and less space.
Normally, 20 thousand fish are put in one acre pond, then one fish is kept in 300 liters of water, while 110-120 fish are put in 1 thousand liters of water through this system tank. Accordingly, a fish is kept in only nine liters of water.
Advantages of this technology
The advantage of RAS technology is that 90 percent of the water can be recycled with this technology. At the same time, through this technique, that much profit can be earned in 1 acre. As much as the farmer earns on 10 acres of traditional.
At the same time, the old technique, from which fish was reared in the pond, now through this technique 10 times the production can be taken from it. In the coming time, the consumption of fish is increasing continuously, due to which fish farming will be an important contribution in the agricultural sector in the future.
At the same time, Sultan’s son Neeraj said that his father engaged in this business for about 20 years, besides students of various colleges from every corner of the country, agricultural scientists have visited his farm and got information about the techniques of fish farming. At the same time, his father has also given free training to more than 20,000 people to the fishermen.
Fish farming business in other states also
Farmer Sultan Singh built North India’s first fish seed hatchery. After which he started selling seeds. Apart from this, he has also started work on lease of dams in Rajasthan and Maharashtra. Farmer Sultan Singh says that he continues to make new inventions for fish farmers in the field of fisheries, so that good profits can be earned in fish farming.
