Ranchi, Jul 31 (PTI) Domestic steel company Tata Steel is going to start supplying special seats in the state-of-the-art train ‘Vande Bharat’ from September. This will be the first of its kind seat system in the country.
Giving this information in a conversation with PTI, Tata Steel Vice President (Technology and New Materials Business) Debashish Bhattacharya said that the company’s composites division has received an order to provide seats for 22 trains of Vande Bharat Express. The value of this order is around Rs 145 crore.
Bhattacharya said, “These are specially designed seats. They can rotate up to 180 degrees and have been provided with facilities like plane seats. This train seat is the first of its kind supply in India. The supply of these seats will start from September and will be completed in 12 months.
Designed for Vande Bharat trains, these seats are made of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) and their maintenance cost will also be very low. Apart from being convenient, it will also contribute in enhancing the safety of the passengers.
The fully domestically developed Vande Bharat train can run at a speed of 130 kmph. It is one of the fastest trains in the country.
Bhattacharya said that Tata Steel is planning to spend Rs 3,000 crore on research and development activities by 2025-26. This is part of the target of taking Tata Steel to the top five steel companies globally by 2030. To achieve this goal, the company is paying great attention to research and development.
He said Tata Steel is setting up a new plant in Maharashtra’s Khopoli to manufacture sandwich panels, with a Netherlands-based company as the technical partner. The sandwich panels manufactured at this plant will be used for interiors in railway and metro coaches.
