Supreme Court unhappy with political parties’ ‘Rawari’ behaviour, know why notice issued to Election Commission

Supreme Court: As elections approach in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, there has been a flurry of announcements and promises. The Chief Ministers of both the states have announced several changes in an attempt to save their respective governments. It would not be wrong to say that before the elections the Revdi culture has become completely dominant. Recently a PIL was filed in the Supreme Court against it, alleging that cash and other freebies were being distributed at taxpayers’ expense.

Court issued notice to Election Commission

Taking cognizance of the PIL, the Supreme Court has issued notice to Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan Election Commission. Also, the Supreme Court has sought a reply from the Election Commission within four weeks. The case was listed along with an earlier case, which was filed by senior lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay.

Let us tell you that Prime Minister Narendra Modi often mentions the “Revdi culture” of free election promises in his speeches. He claims that this can never be beneficial for the country. But it is promoted extensively even in the states where BJP is in power.

There has been a flurry of promises since the elections.

The Aam Aadmi Party had promised to provide various free goods and services to the public during the recent Gujarat Assembly elections. Along with AAP, Congress had also talked about providing up to 300 units of free electricity to the people of Gujarat.

Moreover, AAP had promised to provide Rs 1000 per month to all women above 18 years of age if their party comes to power. Similarly, he has also promised to provide free transportation facilities to Gujarati women. Even in Karnataka, Congress had made many free promises before the elections.
