Nadella is in India on a four-day visit. In an exclusive interview with ET, he praised India’s technological progress and said that every small and big company in the country is using digital technology. He said, “Not only startups and unicorns in India, but also small companies, government companies and multinational companies are making extensive use of technology. In this way, they are increasing the use of digital for their users and customers. Nadella said that schemes like Aadhaar and UPI have made life easier for common people.
India is running twice as fast as the world
Hyderabad-born Nadella, 55, is the third CEO in Microsoft’s 47-year history. He said, ‘The work that is being done on digital in India is amazing. Such efforts are not happening anywhere else in the world. As far as human capital is concerned, India is in a better position. It will play an important role in creating future technologies like AI and quantum computing. The rate of skilling people in India is twice the global rate. This is the reason why the company is increasing its investment in India.
Microsoft is the third most valuable company in the world after Apple and Saudi Aramco. Its market cap is $1.79 trillion. He said, ‘There are many reasons for his faith in India. I met many people working on Bhashini. They told me how they are converting speech to text and then text to speech. Small companies in the country are using digital. All the big companies of the country are working on making technology. Startups are doing things that have never been done before. The share of technology in GDP growth percentage is very high.
Make in India
Regarding Microsoft’s investment in India, Nadella said that he sees it in three ways. The first way is whether we are making the product in India or not. Earlier we used to make products abroad and sell them here. But now we are making products for the world in India. We have invested heavily in building four large data centers here. Also we have joined hands with them to build data centers for Reliance Jio. Along with this, the company is also working closely with Gautam Adani and Tata Group. Microsoft has also partnered with Indian startups LambdaTest and inMobi.
