There was a time when Subrata Roy used to sell namkeen on a scooter. In the year 1978, Subrata Roy, along with a friend, started selling biscuits and snacks on a scooter. After this, he started a chit fund company with a friend. He started Para banking. Targeted the poor and middle class. Even people earning only Rs 100 used to deposit Rs 20 with him. His scheme had become famous in every nook and corner of the country. Lakhs of people had gone on to join Sahara. With two chairs and a scooter in a room, he traveled up to two lakh crore rupees. He was a master at selling dreams.
Business spread in every sector
Subrata Roy had spread his business in every sector. First he ventured into the housing development sector. After this, he went on spreading his wings in one sector after another. Sahara had spread to real estate, finance, infrastructure, media, entertainment, health care, hospitality, real estate, retail, information technology. Not only in the country but all over the world, the sound of Sahara was ringing. Sahara was the sponsor of Team India for 11 years. As Sahara’s business grew, Subrata Roy’s wealth doubled, quadrupled.
