The government today said that it has been identified as to what government property will be sold in 4 years. Under the recently introduced National Monetization Pipeline, several state-owned companies including NTPC Ltd., National Highways Authority of India and Airports Authority of India Assets have been identified.
Bhagwat Karad, Minister of State for Finance said this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. Companies whose infrastructure assets have been identified for monetization are NHAI, AAI, PGCIL, NTPC, NHPC, NLC India. FCI, GAIL, IOCL, HPCL, BSNL, MTNL and BBNL. He said that it has been decided to accelerate the pace of creation of new infrastructure and to unlock the value of infrastructure created so far to facilitate infrastructure operation.

NMP was launched in August
In August, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched the National Monetization Pipeline. It has a 4-year plan for selling brownfield infrastructure assets. Under this, assets worth Rs 6 lakh crore can be sold from FY 2022 to FY 2015. This includes assets belonging to the Ministries of Roads, Transport and Highways, Railways, Power, Pipelines and Natural Gas, Civil Aviation, Shipping Ports and Waterways, Telecommunications, Food and Public Distribution, Mining, Coal and Housing and Urban Affairs.

Sitharaman had then said that the government would sell only under-utilised assets. Its right will remain with the government and the private sector partners will have to compulsorily return it after the stipulated time. He said that we are not selling any land. The National Monetization Pipeline talks about brownfield assets that need to be monetized better. We are monetizing them better through private participation. The resources from monetization will be invested in infrastructure building.
